The perfect alliance between innovation, tradition, and performance.
At Coutellerie L’Ergot, each knife is much more than just a tool: it is a high-precision piece, designed with the most advanced materials and modern technologies, while preserving the soul and demands of cutlery craftsmanship.
Here is what makes our knives so unique:
Sintered steel: the basis of performance
We use a process of powder metallurgy, which involves compressing and heating steel powder until its partial fusion (sintering). Unlike traditional forged steel, this process gives rise to a steel more homogeneous, purer, and more resistant, with a better edge retention and fewer internal defects.
Each blade is 3D printed, layer by layer, for absolute control of its geometry, balance, and weight.
Our steels: three exclusive alloys:
- Maracier = Maraging steel.
A high-end steel used in aeronautics and extreme applications.- High hardness (60 HRC).
- Great mechanical resistance.
- Practically stainless.
Duracier = Super-stainless steel.
Developed to withstand intensive use while maintaining an exceptional sharpness.- Hardness up to 62 HRC.
- Maximum resistance to corrosion.
- Compatible with demanding food use.
San-mai damascus steel = Composite multilayer steel.Three-layer structure: a hard steel core (10Cr15CoMov) surrounded by 2 softer and decorative damascus steel layers.
Damascus steel is a type of composite steel known for its unique visual beauty, strength, and excellent sharpness. It is made of several layers of different steels, folded, forged, and then welded together to create characteristic wavy patterns.- Refined aesthetics with wavy patterns.
- Perfect combination of flexibility and hardness.
- Artisanal finish with each pattern unique.
3D Printing: micron precision.
Thanks to SLM (Selective Laser Melting) technology, we print our blades by fusing metal powder using a high-precision laser.
This method offers:
- Total design freedom.
- Optimized internal shapes.
- Exceptional strength.
- The possibility to integrate customization elements directly into the structure (text, name, logo).
For the handles, we use SLS (Selective Laser Sintering), a 3D printing process using technical polymers.
These materials are lightweight, durable, ergonomic, and non-slip, even in wet environments.
Cerakote™ coating: aesthetic and resistance.
Some of our blades are protected by a matte black Cerakote coating, initially designed for weaponry and military equipment.
This ultra-thin treatment offers:
- Corrosion and acid protection.
- Increased resistance to wear and scratches.
- A non-stick effect for food cutting.
- A modern and understated aesthetic appearance.
High-end handles: design & comfort.
- Varnished boxwood: a noble, local material, handcrafted.
- 3D printed polymers: customized textures, water and heat resistance.
- Full tang construction: the blade runs through the handle for enhanced strength and perfect balance.
Integrated personalization.
Thanks to additive manufacturing, we offer advanced customization on each knife:
- Engraving of text, name, or message on the blade or handle.
- Choice of coating, material, packaging, handle color.
- Possibility to add exclusive decorative elements (pins, personalized sheath).
Artisanal finish.
Despite our mastery of advanced technologies, nothing replaces the human hand:
- Each blade is hand-sharpened to ensure a razor-sharp edge.
- Handles are manually adjusted and polished.
- Personalizations are checked one by one for a perfect result.
With us, technology enhances the gesture, and each piece tells a story.
The combination of expertise, innovation, and exceptional materials allows us to offer unique, durable, personalized knives, made to impress, and to last.
